Issues:                                                                                                        Recently, there have been many judgments involving the usage, creation, and destruction of human embryo. Stem cell controversy comes from the use of Embryonic Stem Cells because an early stage embryo must be destroyed.

Reasoning For Stem Cells:

  • Stem cell research can possibly help treat a variety of medical problems. It could lead humankind closer to better treat and perhaps cures to a number of diseases:
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Birth Defects
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Replace or Repair Damaged Organs
  • Better treatment of these diseases could also give significant social benefits for individuals and economic gains for the society.
  • We should be able to learn both adult and embryonic stem cells and eventually let the science decide which of the cells will be best for healing cures.

Reasoning Against Stem Cells:

  • The probability for research on stem cells hasn’t been proven yet, more animal research is needed.

  • The first principle of ethics is that we must do what is right and avoid what is wrong, however, many people are arguing that the end defend the means and that we should kill the embryos anyway because of the enormous therapeutic benefits of their stem cells.

  • It is wrong to use embryonic stem cells, as the process to attain them destroys a human embryo. The destruction of human life cannot be acceptable, even if the plan is to save another human life.

  • The use of embryonic stem cells is certain to be extremely expensive. Meanwhile, many adult stem cell breakthroughs have already taken place.
